Case Study - A Global Asset System for IBM

IBM Global Services won a contract to manage desktops PCs for a large telecommunications company. IBM's strategic asset system was some 12 months away from being delivered by the developers and IBM need a temporary asset solution in double quick time.

After proposing a solution based around the Oracle Database, iAS web server and using Oracle Designer Web Generator as the development tool, we were commissioned to complete full analysis, design, development and implementation of the temporary Asset Management System.

We designed & developed a simple web based data entry screen that would allow the Desktop Auditors to enter the details all around the country.

Loan machine AIX hardware was arranged, and the Oracle Database, Web server was installed and configured to allow the Asset Department for centralised data entry and reporting.

Standard SQL reports were written and published on the Web so Asset Department could immediately see the results of the audit and commission revisits to sites where the data was missing or incomplete.

A file interface was developed so that audits in different countries, after collating their own local audit data, could send the data to be loaded into the central Global Asset Database.

We achieved all the above from scratch within 2 months and had a working system implemented within 4 weeks !
